Passive Network Marketing v. Active Network Marketing

 

There are really two types of marketing approaches when it comes to network marketing one is a passive method and the other is an active method. They can both be effective, but most network marketers, myself included, seem to gravitate toward the passive method.  The appeal to a passive marketing approach is less chance of rejection.

Passive Network Marketing involves marketing sale funnels. The most common methods to market sale funnels are, paid advertising, social media platforms and article marketing. Passive marketing is great and I use it.  The problem is expense and time.

If you don’t have much experience creating good ads you can spend a lot of money before you get leads. Trying to connect with people on social media platforms like Facebook can be time consuming. Nothing takes more time and labor then article marketing. Even David Wood the article-marketing guru suggests that people write 100 articles in 100 days and it will be 60 days before you start generating significant leads.

If you want to start generating cheap leads on a daily basis immediately you have to resort to active marketing. These are all things I really did not want to do, but are proving effective.  All of them are proven traditional methods used by successful network marketers over the years. Here are the three things that I have found effective.

First is copying the names and numbers off of real estate for sale signs. This is quick and simple. Just by cutting through different neighborhoods to and from work I have been able to pick up an average of 15 a week.  That is three free leads a day. In addition I get about 15 more leads a month from local junk mail advertisements. I generally look for accountants, insurance agents and again real estate agents. It works out to be between 60 and 70 leads a month.

Second is a card grab.  These are business cards that are placed on bulletin boards at local businesses and community centers. I don’t see many of these around here in Los Angeles. I have a couple of car washes and a local store that have them. For me this is at best only good for 5 leads a month.

Third is setting up a box that offers a free lunch drawing. I have only done this once. I set up a box at a local restaurant and offering a free lunch $25 dollar value. I got 47 cards. That means each card cost 53 cents.  The leads I have generated using advertising have cost me a lot more then that.

Now here is where is gets difficult for some. You have to actually pick up the phone and call the leads.  I have found that most people are like me and will politely blow you off if they are not interested.  The truth is whether your lead comes from passive or active marketing strategies you have to talk to people about your opportunity. I have never had a lead enter a sales funnel and sign up for my primary opportunity without ever talking to me.  I am not saying that it won’t happen, I not saying I haven’t HOPED it would happen I am just saying it has not happened for me.

The Secret to Effective Lead Generation

Everyone engaged in an online business is looking for someone who may be interested in what they are promoting or offering. This means that everyone must spend sometime on lead generation.  In order to establish an effective lead generation campaign you need to identify your lead, think about what your lead is looking for, provide information your leads are looking for, provide a solution and stay in contact.

The first thing you need to do is set a profile for your ideal lead. This seems obvious but most people forget this step. Consider the basic demographics your lead should have. This would include gender, age, education, occupation, geographic location, etc. By focusing on your ideal lead you can narrow your campaign.

Think about what your lead is doing online. Where do they go? Where are they spending time? What are they spending their money on? What are they looking for? Use LinkedIn profiles of potential customers.

Provide a source of information for potential leads. Remember potential leads are looking for information. They are looking for help to satisfy a need or solve a problem. For effective lead generation you have to provide information that your potential leads are looking for or they won’t find you. Be clear about the information you can provide so that a potential lead will opt in with you instead of going somewhere else.

Your lead generation campaign should provide potential leads with a solution to their problem. This requires that you have a way to collect your potential leads information. Give your potential leads something for free in exchange for their name and email. This could be anything from a free report to a free video training. The key is that the information you are giving away must be relevant to your potential leads needs. The best type of lead is one that is asking you for information.

Stay in contact with your leads.  Would you invite someone to your home or business and ignore him or her? Use a Weber or some email marketing service to continue to provide your leads with relevant information that is designed to help them satisfy a need. If you want to sell an opportunity or product to a potential lead then build a relationship overtime that is based on value.
